College Financial Aid Workshop
On September 26, 2016, College Central hosted a College Financial Aid workshop with special guest speaker April Query from College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC). Mrs. Query provided students and parents with a wealth of information regarding financial aid, scholarships, loans and the FAFSA. Her Powerpoint presentation can be viewed by clicking on "CFNC Financial Aid Powerpoint", found on the bottom of this page listed under "files."

Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the paperwork step necessary to access federal student aid, including the Pell Grant and federal student loans. No matter what your family's economic situation currently is, you are always eligible for federal student or parent loans, so don't put it off. Also, many scholarships are now requiring that a FAFSA be filed. The NEW application opened on October 1st- Visit www.FAFSA.ed.gov to get started!!!
Mountaire Farms/Civitas Media Scholar Athlete of the Month
Each month, Mountaire Farms and Civitas Media will recognize a senior student athlete from either Scotland, Bladen or Robeson counties as the Scholar Athlete of the Month. The selected athlete will receive a $1,000 college scholarship plus an engraved crystal trophy recognizing him/her. To be eligible, a student (male or female) must be a senior with a GPA or 3.0 or higher AND exhibit outstanding sportsmanship and superior ability in athletic competition. A letter of recommendation from the student's coach is required as part of the nomination process. See Mrs. Goodwin in College Central for more information.

Effective for 2016: Richmond Community College guarantees TWO YEARS of FREE tuition & fees at RCC for Richmond & Scotland County residents!

To be eligible, you must:
• Be a resident of Richmond or Scotland counties.
• Successfully complete at least 2 free dual enrollment courses through RCC’S Career & College Promise program.
• Graduate high school with at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA.
• Complete the RCC Scholarship application & submit your FAFSA application

NC REACH is a statewide grant program that provides funding for foster youth to attend public colleges. Students who aged out of North Carolina public foster care or whose adoption from North Carolina public foster care was finalized on or after their 12th birthday are eligible. Many colleges and universities offer their own scholarships to incoming freshman. These scholarships are general in nature and are made based on information received through the Admissions process or via information supplied to the Office of Financial Aid.  In most instances, no additional application is required to be considered for these awards. Visit the college/university’s website (often found under “Financial Aid) to see if they have additional ones to apply for.
Scholarships for JUNIORS

The junior high school year is the best time for students, who are characterized with exceptional academic achievements and have financial needs for further education, to start looking for college scholarships for high school juniors and obtain financial aid that would make their lives easier.

There are many available high school junior scholarships, so the students can apply for more alternatives and get ready to apply for the scholarships that will become available during their senior year.
